Early 1970s. Amedeo is a poor Italian immigrant living in Australia for twenty years. Seeking to marry an Italian wife, he corresponds with Carmela, a pretty girl from Rome. They do not reveal their true identities and do not mention their hardships in their letters. Carmela is actually a prostitute seeking an opportunity to change her life style. Amedeo, embarrassed about his looks, sends a photograph to Carmela of his handsome friend Giuseppe. Finally, Carmela lands in Melbourne. Amedeo meets Carmela at the airport and he is struck by her beauty. Thinking he will be rejected because of his looks, he decides to tell Carmela that he is Giuseppe, and he reserves to tell her the truth at a later moment. This starts a three day eventful journey across Eastern Australia. Carmela will soon become better acquainted with Amedeo and she learns of his hardships as an immigrant. She eventually meets the real Giuseppe, however, she believes that he is her betrothed groom, Amedeo. She quickly learns Giuseppe’s true shady intentions. In fact, she finds herself living in a red light district and then escapes. Amedeo and Carmela finally find true happiness together. Plot: The freshly graduated psychiatrist David shall deliver an opinion about young Maddalena, who’s on trial for murdering a hunter. She claims she’s a witch and acted on behalf of the devil. The public health officer tells David, he’s got reason to believe her, that she’d been searching for a man who suits her needs for 300 years. Already after his first meeting with Maddalena, David begins to change: He ignores his beautiful young wife Cristina and loses himself in daydreams and hallucinations in which he participates in Inquisition questioning and erotic witches’ circles. An attractive young woman is slashed to death in the lift of an apartment block. An exotic dancer, Mizar, discovers the body and is soon a victim herself (she is tied up and drowned in her bath). Having become friends with Andrea Antinori, the building’s architect, two models – Jennifer and Marilyn – move into the deceased dancer’s apartment. The police believe that Andrea is the killer. Meanwhile, Jennifer is being harassed by Adam, her former partner. After being attacked in her bedroom by the masked murderer, Jennifer seeks refuge in her neighbour’s apartment. The good samaritan, Sheena, turns out to be a lesbian who lives with her violin-playing father. Returning to Jennifer’s apartment, the women discover a bloodstained orchid and Adam’s body. Later, Marilyn is stabbed to death in a busy street. Andrea, who happens to be there, gets smeared in her blood and goes into hiding.
